PROpaganda
Propaganda is the more or less systematic way to manipulate other people’s beliefs, attitudes, or actions by means of (words, gestures, banners, music, etc..) (Britannica 4.8) The propagandist has a specific goal or set of goals. To achieve these he/she must deliberately select facts, arguments, and displays of symbols and present them in ways the he/she thinks it will succeed. It is common for propaganda to be aimed at children or young adults, as they lack the critical reasoning skills abilities to help determine the objectivity of a particular message.
Propaganda in animal farm
Throughout the novel, propaganda was used in Animal Farm. This helped George Orwell sell the story. There were many examples used in the novel, such as; when Old Major uses some techniques of propaganda in his speech in the beginning of the story - he identifies humans as their enemy, and he attempts to unite all of the animals against the common enemy. He promises that the animals lives will be better and easier if they do what he suggests and get rid of the humans. As well, Old Major teaches them a simple song, Beasts of England, this inspires them with his ideas to plan a revolution. Although he genuinely believes that he is acting in the animals best interest, which still is propaganda. Another example would be when the pigs officially declare that everything Moses says about Sugarcandy Mountain is a lie. They allow him to stay on doing no work, and give him an allowance of a beer a day. Although Moses tells the animals that after they die they will have a happy and easy life in a better world. This makes them more likely to accept their current laborious lives and huger. George Orwell, used propaganda throughout the book to help the readers to understand how they used propaganda in the Russian Revolution.
